What You Need to Know Before Starting ADHD Medication

In Australia, ADHD medications are regulated at the state and territory level. Prescribers must follow the requirements of the patient's location, which may include permits, specialist involvement, or additional approvals.

Because of this, one of our clinicians will review your existing documentation and complete their own clinical assessment for medication prescribing to determine whether ADHD medication treatment is appropriate under your state's regulations.

A formal ADHD diagnosis and specialist report are required before booking.

Medicare Rebate Eligibility

Eligibility for Medicare rebates varies between individuals and cannot be guaranteed by E-ADHD. Please speak with your regular GP to confirm whether you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate before booking.

Rebate eligibility may depend on factors such as:

  • Previous use of limited annual rebates
  • Telehealth attendance requirements
  • Whether you hold a valid referral for the service

Where a patient is eligible, Medicare rebate claims are processed by an E-ADHD doctor during your appointment.

Referrals and NDIS

NDIS participants, families, carers, support coordinators and health professionals can make a referral through our partner practice, Patches Integrated Health. Referrals are made using the Patches referral form, and a member of the Patches team will be in touch to arrange the next step.

You will need the client's consent, or the consent of their legal guardian, before making a referral on their behalf. If you are not sure which referral applies to your situation, contact Patches and they can talk it through with you.

Make a referral through Patches

Exercise physiology carries risks, as all health care does. Your practitioner will discuss these with you before your first session.

E-ADHD and Patches Integrated Health share a related ownership structure. You are free to obtain exercise physiology or any other allied health service from a provider of your choosing.

How our ADHD medication service works

A structured process that supports ADHD treatment through secure telehealth consultations, in shared care with your GP.

  1. 01 Consult

    Medication consultation and prescribing

An ADHD medication consultation to understand your diagnosis, symptoms and clinical needs before treatment is started or adjusted.

  2. 02 Review

    Review and adjustment

Your clinician reviews how the medication is working, responds to any side effects, and adjusts the dose where clinically appropriate.

  3. 03 Support

    Ongoing support

Practical guidance for you and your family on taking ADHD medication as prescribed, with telehealth support between reviews.

  4. 04 Share

    Shared care with your GP

Our clinicians provide periodic reviews while your GP or nurse practitioner manages routine prescribing, keeping your care coordinated.

Please note. Medication is one part of ADHD care and is not suitable for everyone. Every prescribing decision is made by your treating clinician based on your individual circumstances, and is subject to the requirements that apply in your state or territory. Never change a dose without speaking to your prescriber first.
